The Sick Children’s Trust supports families with critically ill children by providing free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, emotional and practical support based at leading paediatric hospitals across the UK. The charity runs ten ‘Homes from Home’ and supports around 4,000 families every year, keeping them together just minutes from their seriously ill child’s bedside while they undergo lifesaving treatment in a hospital far from home. While support is provided free of charge to families, it costs the charity £30 to accommodate a family for one night and The Sick Children’s Trust relies entirely on voluntary donations to run its ‘Homes from Home’ 365 days a year.
In December 2015, Weil London, the London office of international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, embarked on a two-year partnership with The Sick Children’s Trust. The partnership engaged more than 75% of Weil employees in fundraising and volunteering which resulted in £145,000 being raised and 350 hours of pro bono/volunteering support being provided to build the infrastructure and capacity of the charity. For a small charity with a national presence, this investment in time and expertise fed directly into the establishment of a new 5 year organisational strategy and governance plans.
