Aldi and RSPB

Aldi and RSPB

Biography

Aldi’s partnership with the RSPB aims to encourage young people to get into nature and build their understanding and love of the great outdoors. By 2019, the programme aims to provide ‘Connection to Nature’ experiences for over half a million children across Britain. The scheme is funded solely by donations from carrier-bag sales in Aldi’s UK stores. Whilst difficult to detect the impact of short interventions like this partnership, the research suggests the Aldi funded RSPB outreach sessions have had a positive impact: •Teachers and pupils report high levels of enjoyment and are keen to be involved in future sessions •86% of pupils say they have learnt something new •Pupils are keen to spend more time outside doing similar activities (77%), spend more time outside when at home (85%) and school (85%) •Pupils’ strong interest in nature has been strengthened by their involvement and it is positive to see an improvement amongst older pupils From June 2015 to April 2019 it is estimated: •Up to 500,000 children aged 3-10 years will be provided with a Connection to Nature experience •Over 11,177 Teachers and Teaching Assistants supported •Over 1,532 schools and play grounds and over 800 green spaces and parks visited
