Set up in 2011 by Berkeley Group, one of Britain’s leading housebuilders, the Berkeley Foundation is a grant-making charity helping the hardest-to-reach young people in London and the South.
Our annual income is currently £1.5m and continues to grow, enabling us to make more than £10m in grants since 2011. In the last 12 months, we have taken our work to another level, revising our strategy, increasing our annual giving and launching three new Strategic Partnerships.
Our new strategy provides real clarity on our priorities and, crucially, will enable us to more effectively monitor and evaluate the impact of our work. We retain our focus on four key areas – homes, jobs, skills and care – but have also introduced stretching new commitments around innovation and capacity-building.
We have achieved a huge amount in 2016:
•We have renewed three long-term partnerships, enabling our partners to build on the successful models they have established and expand these to reach new audiences.
•We have launched major new initiatives around care leavers, mental health and STEM.
•More than 1,300 Berkeley staff got involved with our work (56%).
•As a result of our support, our partners were able to support over 4,300 people.
