Shivaji Shiva is a charity lawyer who advises staff and board members of charities and other not-for-profit organisations. He leads the charity sector team at leading social purpose law firm Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP.
In that role he advises on the creation of charities, their dissolution and most of the issues they encounter in between. This includes advising leading social care charities, campaigning charities, corporate foundations, and a number of national federations. His work is increasingly focused on complex governance advice, including the restructuring and re-organisation of charities, mergers and the development of multi-party collaboration arrangements.
A well-known figure in the charity sector, Shivaji is an active member and former Secretary of the Charity Law Association, a serial charity trustee, and an occasional transport campaigner. Shivaji is currently promoting a ‘mini-Holland’ to provide people-friendly streets and safer routes to school in South Birmingham.
Shivaji Shiva is ranked as a “notable practitioner” by Chambers Directory for charities work. Peers say he is “proactive and gets the job done,” offering clients “well-rounded advice”. He writes on changes in the law relevant to charities and tweets @ShivajiShivaLaw.
