Who is the winner?

David Fawcett is the customer services manager for the consultancy Amey in Hampshire. He has worked for Amey for eight years in a role that has evolved into leading on the company’s corporate social responsibility in the county.

What did he do?

Fawcett’s passion for social value has transformed Amey Hampshire’s charity and social commitments. He constantly promotes Amey’s apprenticeship programme, targeting areas of high unemployment and organising placements for people with disabilities and ex-offenders. He is involved in championing prisoner rehabilitation with HM Prison Winchester.

Fawcett has organised major fundraising events from scratch, including two bike rides that raised more than £5,500 for Naomi House Children’s Hospice and the Rainbow Centre. He is a torch-bearer for CSR throughout Amey, celebrating team successes and promoting opportunities for action through meetings and newsletters.

Why did he win?

Thanks to Fawcett’s zeal and commitment, the majority of Hampshire staff now view CSR as a core part of Amey’s work. In a 2016 survey, 95 per cent agreed that “Amey supports the communities in which it works”, the highest score in the UK for the company.

He has created a culture where everyone helps to make CSR a reality: the number of staff taking their community days has risen from none to more than 200, and Hampshire’s 250 employees have supported 26 charities and social enterprises through 400 volunteering days and various fundraising events.
