A unique partnership between UK airline Monarch and Blind Veterans UK helps to assist vision-impaired air travellers and reach more vision-impaired veterans than ever before.
Combining Monarch’s commitment to providing outstanding customer service with the expertise of Blind Veterans UK’s rehabilitation staff and beneficiaries, a sighted guiding initiative has been developed which recognises the need to assist passengers with sight loss and supports blind veterans in leading confident, independent lives. The training is delivered by blind veterans and rehabilitation staff to Monarch cabin crew across the UK to help crew support and understand the needs of all passengers with sight loss and ensure that their journeys are as comfortable and stress free as possible.
As well as offering fundraising support, the partnership also reaches out to the estimated 50,000 veterans battling sight loss who do not realise they are eligible for the charity’s support. Monarch carries six million customers each year who could each know a potential beneficiary. The airline raises awareness of the charity’s work to passengers through its social media channels, inflight ‘Passport’ magazine and onboard collections. Through this valuable element of the partnership, Blind Veterans UK has begun to find some of these ‘lost’ veterans.
