Who is on the team?
JPA is a furniture contractor based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Full-time sustainability director Fiona Edwards heads the corporate social responsibility team. Her role is a significant investment for the family-run business, highlighting the company’s commitment to social responsibility. Edwards is supported by her team, James Crome and Chris Holder.
What does the team do?
Environmental responsibility is a key aspect of CSR for JPA Furniture. As well as encouraging traditional fundraising, in 2015 the CSR team gained 15 per cent of the company’s marketing budget in order to launch projects in its two operational areas, Camden in London and Hertfordshire. The JPA 100 Chair Challenge was an amnesty scheme for chairs destined for landfill. Working with St Albans Community Voluntary Services, the company donated some chairs to local charities and recycled others. In Camden, JPA redistributed unwanted furniture from a client, UCL, to the local charity Collective, which was looking for furniture for a business incubation hub.
Why did it win?
JPA saved 1,119 items of furniture from landfill in 2015, 5 per cent over its target, as well as redistributing more than 1,000 items of furniture across a diverse range of local groups. Having worked with CVS St Albans for the 100 Chair Challenge, the team is developing a network of CSV contacts and will run the challenge county-wide in 2016.
