For an outstanding partnership between a company in the property and construction sectors and a UK charity
What is the partnership?
Staff at the commercial property and real estate services adviser CBRE voted Shelter the company’s first UK charitable partner. The partnership is based on a shared vision that everyone should have a safe and secure home, and forms part of CBRE’s wider corporate social responsibility strategy Building a Better Future.
What did the company do?
CBRE developed a network of champions to lead on activities and promote opportunities to colleagues. Specific areas of the partnership, such as pro-bono work and or volunteering, were spearheaded by executive directors.
More than half of CBRE’s UK staff have engaged directly with the partnership. Fundraising events included charity bike rides and an indoor rowing challenge.
CBRE employees have also spent more than 870 hours volunteering, and in December 2016 staff donated more than 500 shoeboxes of gifts to homeless families for Christmas. Staff have donated 275 hours of pro-bono support worth about £175,000, including work on a location strategy for Shelter’s shops and energy efficiency surveys. Shelter will benefit from an estimated £1.7m in projected savings and increased profits as a result of CBRE support in the next five years.
Why did it win?
CBRE has raised £900,000, which will fund nine Shelter advisers to support more than 3,500 families. The company aims to raise more than £1m by the end of the partnership, which will help a further 1,500 families facing homelessness.
