As part of British Gas and Shelter’s five year strategic partnership, we ran a social media campaign called Tweet for Shelter to raise the profile of the partnership, and awareness and funds for Shelter’s Christmas fundraising campaign. British Gas donated £1 for every tweet which included #tweetforshelter.
The campaign was a great success:
•£100,000 was raised for Shelter in 27 hours
•3300 additional donations to Shelter’s Christmas fundraising campaign, totaling £65,000
•Shelter acquired 2000 new Twitter followers
•Potential global reach of 241 million
•Press coverage in the Metro
The partnership between British Gas and Shelter called Better Homes for Britain was launched in 2012 and was based on the joint commitment to improve standards in private rented homes, and support Shelter’s mission to end bad housing. British Gas make over 9 million visits to customers’ homes every year and approximately a third of our customers and employees are renters. For Shelter, improving conditions in the private rented sector is a key strategic priority, as over one third of rented accommodation fails to meet the government’s Decent Homes Standard.
